Area Police
Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior political figure stated the attack rendered him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
