Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging season, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-time trainer Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is his maiden championship since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since spring of that year.

Success also indicates he has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is really nice," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had caused some to question if his capacity to perform at the elite level was over.

However the player has made changes in the past month, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an better serving game.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial professional title, gained dominance to create a third set.

Moutet defended four early-game break points in a tight final set before the Russian broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, he earned victory with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
